About Lokmanya Tilak Award 2021 and Zika Virus

LOKMANYA TILAK AWARD 2021:-

              Lokmanya Tilak Trust said that Dr Cyrus Poonawalla will be honoured by Lokmanya Tilak Award for his work during Corona Pandemic, The award ceremony will take place on 13th August.

About the award:-

              The Lokmanya Tilak national award is given annually by Lokmanya Tilak Trust, since 1983 on August 1, the death anniversary of Lokmanya Tilak. However this year the date has been changed due to corona Pandemic.
              The first award was given In 1983. Its recipients include former president Pranab Mukherjee, former prime ministers Indira Gandhi, Dr Manmohan Singh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Infosys founder Narayan Murthy, among others.

ZIKA VIRUS :-

             A 50 year-old woman from pune district has been confirmed as the first confirmed case of Zika virus infection in Maharashtra. Before this, about 60 people in the state of Kerala have been found to be infected with this virus in 2017.

About Zika Virus:-

1) It is a virus disease, transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito
2) Zika virus was first identified in Uganda in 1947.
3) Outbreaks of Zika virus have been recorded in Africa, Asia, The Americans and pecific nations.
4) In a few cases, Zika can trigger paralysis. In pregnant women, it may cause subsequent birth defects.
5) It is the same mosquito that known to transmit infections like dengue and chikungunya.
6) Symptoms include fever, skin rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise and headache.
7) The first case of Zika virus in India was reported in 2017 in gujrat and later in Tamilnadu.
