Perseid Meteor shower 2021

Perseid Meteor :-

The Perseids are a prolific Meteor shower associated with the comet Swift-Tuttle. The Meteor are called the Perseids because the point from which they appear to hail lies in the constellation Perseus.

What is Meteor shower :-

A Meteor shower is a celestial event in which a number of meteors are observed to radiate, or originate, from one point in the night sky.

These meteors are caused by streams of cosmic debris called meteoroids entering Earth's atmosphere extremely high speeds on parallel trajectories.

Why and when does Perseids Meteor shower happen?

The Perseid Meteor shower takes place every year between July and August. It is caused by a trail of debris from a Giant Comet called 109P/Swift-Tuttle. The comet has an Oblong orbit and takes around 133 years to orbit the Sun along its axis. Every year, between July 17 and August 24, Earth crosses the orbit of Swift-Tuttle, which is filled with so much of debris from the comet. When these pieces smash with our Earth’s atmosphere at high speeds, they burn and light up the sky causing, the Perseid meteor shower.
