Difference between Inner Line Permit, protected Area Permit and restricted area permit

Inner Line Permit :-

Why in news?
Recently Ladakh administration has scrapped the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system from the tourist attractions in the 'protected' regions.

What is Inner Line Permit :-

Inner Line Permit (ILP) is an official travel document issued by the concerned state government to allow inward travel of an Indian citizen into protected area for a limited period.

1) States which require permit are Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland.
2) Union territory which require permit is Lakshadweep

Protected Area Permit :-

Protected Area Permit (PAP) is required for non-Indian citizens to visit certain areas in India. Indian citizens who are not resident in these areas need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter these places (mainly North-Eastern states).

1) Tourists have to travel in groups of at least 2.
2) They have to travel with a registered travel agent.
3) In some areas only certain entry/exit points are allowed. In certain areas non-Indians cannot enter at all.
4) Citizens of Pakistan, Bangladesh, China and Myanmar can get the PAP only with approve of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Restricted Area Permit :-

Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is required for non-Indians to visit certain areas in India. As of 2009, RAP are required for all visits to the Union Territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and parts of the state of Sikkim

1) Unlike Protected Area Permit, Restricted Area Permit are generally available for individual travellers and can be issued by overseas Embassies or even, in some cases such as Port Blair's Vir Savarkar Airport, on the spot.
2) Indian citizens do not need special permission to visit Restricted Areas.
