Mission Sagar - IV

Why in News?

As a part of Mission Sagar IV the vessel, INS Airavat has been deployed by the Indian Navy to supply COVID relief to friendly foreign nations in South East Asia who are battling the COVID crisis. 

What is Mission Sagar? 

Mission Sagar is a COVID-19 relief mission launched by the government of India in May 2020 as a part of its efforts to provide essential aid to the Indian Ocean countries. 

The difference between Mission SAGAR and Mission Sagar 

Mission Sagar is different from the SAGAR initiative. 
¤ Mission Sagar is a humanitarian and inter-country outreach program, 
¤ while the SAGAR initiative is a policy doctrine of maritime cooperation.
¤ Mission SAGAR initiatives ia a vision for economic and security cooperation between India and its maritime neighbourhoods.

Objectives of Mission Sagar

The objective of mission Sagar is to deploy medical assistance teams in maritime neighbourhood Nations, helping their governments deal with COVID emergency and in case of Comoros, with dengue fever as well.


The second objective is to deliver a consignment of COVID19 related essential which includes medicines, Medical Oxygen cylinders, food items etc. to our maritime neighbourhood countries. 


In short, we can say that the Mission Sagar is all about providing medical and financial assistance to neighbouring maritime countries of India so that they can also fight the pandemic effectively.
