Partition Horrors Remembrance Day:-
Ahead of the 75th Independence Day on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the pain of partition can never be forgotten and announced that August 14 will be remembered as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in memory of people's struggles and sacrifices during that period.
He added that the day, remembered for India’s partition into two countries, India and Pakistan, would remind Indians of the need to “remove the poison of social divisions”.
In 1947, British-ruled India was divided into two independent countries – India and Pakistan. With this, lakhs of people were forced to leave their homes. Large-scale communal violence broke out, women were abducted and sexually assaulted. At least 10 lakh peoples are believed to have died during that period.
Ministry Of Home Affairs Issued Notification :-
The Union Home Ministry issued a notification declaring that August 14 will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.
In a notification, the Home Ministry said the people of India, while celebrating “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, will salute those sons and daughters of the country who had to sacrifice their lives during the partition of India.
“Therefore, the Government of India declares 14th August as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to remind the present and future generations of Indians of the pain and suffering faced by the people of India during the partition,” the notification said.
